How To: Keep A Routine When You’re Self Employed.

Keeping a routine is a DAILY struggle, right? At least it is for me.

Being self employed affords you SO much freedom. Which can be a HUGE blessing or a curse… Just depending on the type of person you are.

I tend to be the type of person that thrives on a rigid schedule and a hefty to do list that SOMEONE ELSE has created for me 😅

Luckily, I’ve found some things that really help me stay on task and on schedule.

Schedule yourself.

When you’re self employed means you get to CHOOSE your schedule. Which totally rocks.

If you really want to make an income as a self employed person, I recommend actually scheduling yourself each week. Decide when you’re on the clock and when you’re off.

I like to break down my stuff into block scheduling.

Kind of like this:

Make sure to give yourself time to be a human. It’s easy to over schedule and think you’ll get more done but, that’s just not the case.

Make sure your life has balance. I’m still figuring that out 🤷

Keep a morning routine.

When you work a regular day job, you usually have a morning routine, right? Something that prepares you for the day ahead.

It should only make sense to have a similar routine if you’re self employed.

Do something that wakes you up. (Like exercise)

Drink water.

Make yourself breakfast.

Make a day plan.

A morning routine sets the tone for your day. It helps to have an awesome one!

Have Core Activities

What are Core Activities?

Basically, they’re activities that you do EVERY day that help you stay on target.

Here’s a rocking post about how to apply it to your business:

Some of my core activities include:

Taking our puppy out first thing

My Morning Protein shake.

Making a to-do list.

Making my bed.

Schedule Instagram posts.

Etc. Etc. 😊

Having core activities will help you keep focused on your routine and get you back on track if you fall off the wagon.

Routine = More success!

Hopefully this post will help you achieve that.

How to: Make Your Brand Stand Out

I LOVE talking about branding. So this week we’re going to give some helpful tips about making your Brand STAND OUT.

Are you a Brand or a Business?

You answered “both”, right? Hopefully you did… but I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Building your Brand is more important than building your business. WHATTT

More on that (here) (Plus a blog post coming soon!)

That’s why I’m here to help you figure out how to make YOUR BRAND stand out. So lets get started:

First things first, you should probably know who you are. Do you sell ice cream OR do you sell handmade ice cream that comes in unique, bold and delicious flavors.

What do you do? How do you do it? WHY do you do it?

For Example:

Let’s say you’re a coach.

  • What kind of coach?
  • Why are you a coach?
  • What do you love about being a coach?
  • How can you help your clients?

These are all things that help you define who you are as a brand.

Make sure YOU are clear in every aspect of this. When you get clear, your audience will be able to see that and it’ll do wonders for your trust relationship.

One of my favorite brands in the whole world is The Alison Show. She also happens to be AMAZING at helping others build brands.

Follow this amazing lady for all the tips and tricks.

What’s the BIG idea?

Why did you start your business/brand in the first place?

As a brand, it’s a good idea to have a “BIG IDEA”. Meaning you need to have something that your audience will always associate you with.

Let’s take The Bucket List Family as an example:

Anyone who has been following their brand KNOWS that they’re a family of travelers who give back everywhere they go & whatever they promote centers around those key concepts: Family, Travel and Service.

Their audience KNOWS what they’re all about, which makes it easier for them to make the decision to follow their brand.

So what are the key concepts to your brand? Do you sell clothes that promote self love? Are you a coach that wants to change the world and you’re going to take your audience with you?

INSPIRE YOUR AUDIENCE and be SO clear on what the keys to your brand are. You will be surprised at the tribe you start to build.

How do you compare to other Brands?

What sets you apart from the rest of the businesses?

Sure you might have an amazing product, or service or you might be offering something that really hasn’t been offered before… regardless of that, people are more likely to buy something if they LIKE the person promoting it!

In no way does that mean you shouldn’t highlight the obvious things that set you apart from competition. It just means you also need to give your brand some personality.

Take Miss Jordan for example:

5 Quick Tips For Branding Yourself Online

Are you on the struggle bus of figuring out how to BRAND yourself?

Let me help 🙂

Branding is my favorite part of marketing. It creates a cohesiveness to your business and allows your follows/buyers/peeps to relate to you in a more intimate way. PLUS It will help set you apart from all the “other guys”.

Branding ROCKS and should definitely be a key part of your business or personal endeavors.

SO lets get into it.

Here are 5 quick tips to help you brand yourself:

1.Decide who you are.

This is THE most important step for virtually every part of promoting your business. You have to get really clear about who YOU are.

Here are some questions to help you get started:

  • Who are you?
  • What do you do?
  • What are you promoting?
  • What’s the big idea?
  • How do you compare to other businesses or influencers?

Answering these questions will help you get a clearer understanding of what you want to convey to your followers.

2. What’s the Mission?

Creating a mission statement or just an overall mission for your personal/business endeavor will help you keep your eye on the prize and really help you stream line and give your branding PURPOSE.

Here are some questions to help you get started:

  • What part of this endeavor excites you the most?
  • Why did you start all of this?
  • What are you hoping to accomplish?

People love to follow people who have goals and an ultimate reason for doing what they do.

3.Define audience.

Who do you want to reach?

It’s okay to not be EVERYONE’S cup of tea. Actually, it’s better! The more specific your audience is, the more loyal your following can be and the easier it is to target when you start getting into advertising.

Sit yourself down and think about what you’re offering and who specifically you want to offer it to!

4. Establish a color scheme

What’s your aesthetic?

Picking a color scheme will help your audience to identify you in the ocean of social media posts or advertisements.

Our brains are like 70% more likely to remember something we SAW. So help your followers to associate you with some gorgeous color schemes.

5.Create a Logo

What do you want people to identify you with?

Are you a photographer? Maybe include a classy camera. Are you a writer? Maybe a pen or pencil or something that alludes to what you do!

If YOU are your brand, you can just use your name and create something gorgeous and classy.

Because He Lives

Today I just wanted to share with you my gratitude… Because he lives.

If you haven’t already guessed what this blog post is going to be about… It’s going to be a little different than my usual weekly post.

Easter is one of my favorite holidays for lots of reasons, the biggest one being the symbolism behind it. I feel that we often overlook that portion of the holiday and get caught up in the Easter bunny and all the things that come with that.  So I’m not doing a DIY or fun recipe post… I’m sharing a little of my love for the savior.

Because he lives, I get to spend eternity with my husband:

My best friend in the whole world.

Because he lives… I am blessed with the gospel light:

Scriptures that touch my life. A personal connection with my Heavenly Father and the knowledge that there IS life after death.

"The temple isn't just extra credit, it's the whole reason the gospel exists." — I've been thinking a lot about the temple lately. It's one of my favorite places & it provides so much value to my life. I LOVE GOING. But lately.. I've been worried that maybe I spend too much time focused on going and being there and not enough time on other worldly aspects of my life (y'all Satan is for real.) Like somehow me going as often as I possibly can is taking away someone else's chance or creating lack in other aspects of my life.. HA. In Stake conference today, all of my questions were put to rest as I heard the quote mentioned above. Making the temple a priority in our lives will bless us EXPONENTIALLY in every other aspect. —- I am grateful for a little piece of Heaven on Earth. A place I can go to feel my Heavenly Father's presence and be nearer to him ❤️ If you want to learn more about temples.. Because he lives… I can become clean:

I can repent. I can be uplifted. I can let go & forgive. I always have a second chance.

One of my favorite blessings.

Because he lives… I have hope:

Hope for a better tomorrow, a brighter future and a more awesome me.

Because he lives… I can live again:

I am so blessed to know that because of HIM, I can live again. Because of HIM, heaven is a possibility for someone imperfect like me.

Because of HIM, I can keep trying.

I hope that we ALL remember, throughout this year, that the sacrifice was made not just to save us from our imperfections.. but to inspire & enable us to rise above them.

I am so grateful.

Puppy fever. My dream come true.

Any one who knows me, knows that I have ‘Puppy Fever’ like perpetually, forever, it’s never going away. I’m going to end up with 38 dogs and my husband will probably leave me.

Anyways, since yesterday was National Puppy Day… My husband made my dream come true.

Wanna guess? HE GOT ME A PUPPY.

You want to know how I reacted? MENTAL BREAKDOWN.

Me: Still excited but also horrified that I didn’t prepare for this sort of wonderful thing. Don’t get me wrong, I am so so happy but, getting a dog is crazy and requires a lot of thoughts, prayers and maybe some prescription drugs.

Anyways, Meet Miss SCOUT. Our adorable Aussie Mix.

She has THE SWEETEST personality. She is about 10 & a half weeks old and the best craigslist decision anyone could ever make. She’s like to cuddle and is very shy but, we are working on that.

Because I know a lot of you who read this are just like me in the control freak OCD arena… I’m going to give you a break down of everything we had to do before we brought her home.

Find the Right Breed

I’m always doing research on breeds since I’m obsessed with dogs and all that. So I knew that I wanted an Australian Shepherd. They’re loyal, smart and excellent family dogs. However, they are also mischievous and very high energy. Working dogs NEED to be exercised daily.

Tips to help you:

  • Look at your lifestyle.

(Are you active? Do you need a family friendly dog? Will you be leaving it alone for long amounts of time? What is the main purpose for you getting a dog?)

  • Look at where you live.

( Do you have the space? Will you need a yard? Do you have places to walk your dog nearby?)

  • Look at your schedule.

( Do you have the time and energy for that kind of dog? )

These are ALL important factors to take into consideration before even looking for a prospective dog.

Here’s a helpful little quiz to get you started:

Can you afford it?

Dogs are almost more expensive than children. At least for the first couple of months.

When you get a puppy there’s a LOT of maintenance. Lots of ruined carpet, lots of vet visits, lots of shots, lots of toys and beds and collars.

Here’s a list of everything we had to pay for in the first 24 hours:

  • Vet Visit -$49.95
  • Dog Bed- $5.96
  • Dog Crate- $18.86
  • Dog Treats & Toys- $20-35
  • Potty Training Kit- $19.99
  • Food- $20
  • Food bowls- $5
  • Apartment Deposit- $400
  • Collar & Leash – $35
  • Miscellaneous- $30

Not to mention all the shots & check ups they’ll still need. Luckily, our clinic (Kaibab animal hospital) has a “puppy plan” that includes all that for only $30 a month!

So make sure you really have the funds to take care of your new best friend.

Also check out petsmarts Puppy Coupon book:

Are you gonna give it a forever home?

This is my biggest anxiety. There are SO MANY “what ifs” that fly through my brain when I think about this.

Dogs are thinking, feeling animals. I’m 100% sure they feel love and they know when we love them! It’s so important to do whatever you can to make a place for your new dog & to know that you’re going to do everything you can to keep them as part of your home forever.

Obviously, if something happens outside of your control and you have to give up your dog that’s okay. Dogs deserve the best life they can possibly have.

So that’s why we’re getting TWO. (Go Big Or Go Home?)

Meet Our Aussie Corgi mix TUCKER.

We pick him up in April & I can’t wait to make these two adorable dogs have the best life ever!

Tell me, am I missing anything?

What are your best training tips? I would love to hear them!

DIY Outdoor themed wedding favors

This past weekend was a BLUR. My cute sister-in-law got married this weekend and we had the chance to help put everything together for her BEAUTIFUL outdoor themed wedding.

Here’s a peak at the DIY wedding favors we made!

DIY Bird feed Wedding Favors:

(Link to Original Post: )

You will need:

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin (2.5 teaspoons)
  • 3 tbsp corn syrup
  • 4 cups birdseed

You will also need:

  • large mixing bowl
  • heart shaped cookie cutter
  • nonstick spray
  • chopstick or bamboo skewer for making a hole in the ornament
  • parchment paper
  • cookie sheet
  • jute or raffia
  • card stock
  • rubber stamp
  • ink
  • hole punch

Mix flour, water, gelatin and corn syrup. Add birdseed and stir well.

Make sure to spray some non-stick on your hands.. this stuff is disgustingly sticky.

Spray your heart (or really whatever shape you’d like!) mold, and get to work!

I would make little balls of bird seed, place them in mold and then press it to fill the mold.

(See below)

If you want to hang these (obviously, its for birds so hanging from trees is ideal) make sure to poke a hole to stick the ribbon or jute cord through!

Once you’ve laid them all out, let them dry for 6-8 hours before doing anything with them!

If you want to make these cute hearts yourself, here’s the link to the original post:

Also here is a link to some cute heart shape cookie cutters for molding them:
