How To: Quit Feeling Like A Burnt Piece Of Toast.

It’s time to step up your game and QUIT feeling like a burnt piece of toast.

I mean it. This is your wake up call. You are meant for so much more than this feeling of inadequacy.

I wrote this post as kind of a letter to myself (cause you know I’m a success obsessed psycho) but:

If you’re feeling sad for yourself.

If you’re feeling like your life is crashing down around you.

If you’re feeling lost & without purpose.

If you feel like you’re just not quite good enough to achieve the things you want.

This is for YOU too.

Stop making dumb choices.

There are so many things that creep into our lives that make us believe we have no worth.

  • The Media/ Comparison
  • Perceived Failure
  • Mean People

Just to name a few. It kind of sucks to be human in today’s world, there are so many things that pull our attention to our faults and weaknesses EVERY DAY.

But I want you to notice something… Each of the things I listed above are a choice.

We CHOOSE to subject ourselves to the “picture perfect-ness” of the media & we CHOOSE to let ourselves feel down about it. (Like feeling like we need to use GF toast when we should save that for peeps that are actually allergic)

We CHOOSE to feel awful about not being perfectly perfect. We CHOOSE to spiral downwards when we mess up. (Like when you’ve put too much Peanut butter on your toast & life is a chaotic mess)

We CHOOSE to pay more attention to the “Haters” in our lives instead of listening to our supporters. We CHOOSE to internalize the criticism. (Like when someone tells you Avocado doesn’t belong on your toast. Shame on them.)

It’s time to change that.


 It’s just time to start making better choices & eat whatever kind of toast we want.


You have SO much worth

I know we get told this a lot by so called ‘Self Help’ guru’s or our Mom but, I want you to just stop and think about this for a minute.

You rock. Like really. You’re alive. You’re reading this post from some internet enabled device. You’re breathing air. Not a lot of people can say that…Okay, I’m lying but still.

If you’re anything like me you’re under the impression that whatever work you do has no effect long term. LIE.

Or that all the small things you’re accomplishing will never change the world the way you want them to. LIE AGAIN.

Just the fact that you FEEL that way means that YOU ROCK. You’re a visionary, an inspiration and a mover & shaker.


Step 1: Step Off.

Stop feeling bad for yourself. Quit being your own bully.

Step 2: Step Up.

Your perceived failure is just a learning curve, keep failing & see what amazing things you learn.

Step 3: Step Out.

Take a minute to show some gratitude for the awesomeness that is YOU. & share it with others. Serving someone else will ignite that fire so quick you wont even know what hit ya.


Besides all that, somebody loves you. If you can’t think of anyone off the top of your head then think of me! I love you!

You have a purpose.

You have a beating heart in that chest of yours, which means you have a PURPOSE. You EXIST for a reason.   And I’m sure you know this… It’s just hard sometimes when you’ve lost direction or something is thrown in your path that you aren’t ready for.

Crud happens.

If you’re anything like me, you burn out real quick. You get really excited about something and you’re like, “YES! THIS is the thing I was born to do!” and then.. WHAM. Motivation has left the building, despair has set in and this is the end as we know it.

I get it. Oh boy do I get it..

I’m still learning how to overcome this (helpful tips appreciated). BUT I know that just recognizing you have a purpose can help.

Here’s the best thing to do:

Step 1: Write it out.

You have a vision. A dream. A goal. SOMEthing you want/ need to accomplish in some way. Write it all down and let the words inspire you.

Step 2: Remember it takes time.

If you haven’t done this before, give yourself a REALISTIC (the struggle is real) time constraint for your goal. Also, start doing something every day that helps you get closer. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Step 3: Pray.

Or meditate, or take deep cleansing breaths… Whatever you need to do to recenter yourself. Seriously though, Heavenly Father is the greatest at knowing & telling us if we’re on the wrong path or pursuing something that isn’t our purpose.
